About this Talk

Describing my Journey from Combat Veteran to Homeless addict and finally successful husband and father. The switch was broken refers to the emotional switch that had to be turned off when we are in combat in order to focus and survive. This ability to not feel helped us when we had to watch our brothers get blown up and killed but when we came home we didn't know how to turn the switch back on. I experienced a lot of guilt and shame because of my inability to feel love or anything for my family and it tore me apart. It led me to homelessness and numerous over doses. A little over six years ago I took my last drink and drug and began working through my issues. I now have an amazing relationship with my 10 year old daughter and my wife and I have been remarried for 3 years after 6 years separated.
